Pitt bumped off Georgetown 74-65 to take Big East laurels. They were led by 16 points and three blocked shots from local Sam Young. For the Hoyas, whose Coach John Thompson played here, center Roy Hibbert of Prince George’s County, Md. scored 17 on 8-14 shooting, and frosh Austin Freeman (DeMatha) canned three three-pointers for nine points.
UNC edged Virginia Tech in the ACC tourney 68-66. Marcus Ginyard of Bishop O’Connell hit five of eight shots for 10 points, and had two steals, four dishes, and five rebounds. Ty Lawson of Clinton, Prince George’s County had two steals and three rebounds in 24 minutes.
