Mount Vernon, Gus Williams Only Loss Was to DC’s McKinley Tech

Many New York area basketball fans and journalists consider the early 1970’s Mount Vernon High School basketball teams the best ever in the region. Gus Williams, Ray Williams, Rudy Hackett, Earl Tatum, et al. When NYC fans boast about that clique, tell ’em about the beatdown they took at the hands of the school that finished no. 9 in the final Washington Post ranking of Metro area teams, McKinley Tech:

  1. Hardly a beatdown, game was close .

    • Point is # 9 team in DC rankings beat NY area’s best (arguably) ever. And it wasn’t the only time. McKinley also beat them a couple years later when Arthur Williams and Xavier Yeoman played for Tech. That was still a great MV team, including Earl Tatum. Ray Williams, Rudy Hackett. Tech wasn’t even ranked.

  2. yes I was at that game at George town in the knights of Columbus tournament Herbert Joyner Jeff Harrison, Money Monroe Lonnie Perrin and the rest of the McKinley tech b-ballers gave them a D.C beat down.
