The evening begins with a fascinating panel discussion
on the early days of African American participation in
sports and its impact on shaping todays sport world.
Confirmed participants include Bijan Bayne, author of
Sky Kings: Black Pioneers of Professional Basketball. Dr. James
Henderson, whose father Edwin B. Henderson, known as
the “grandfather of basketball” introduced basketball
to African Americans in 1904, Claude Johnson, founder
and president of Black Fives, a vintage sports
licensing company dedicated to researching and
preserving the history of early 1900’s African
American basketball. Susan Rayl, black basketball
team historian. Hal Jackson, the first
African American radio sports announcer.

The discussion will be followed at 7:00 pm by a
“celebrity basketball game”
A group of Falls Church residents, businessmen,
teachers, students, principals, and city officials
will put their egos aside and skills on the line as
they take to the hardwood against the world renowned
Harlem MagicMasters. The evening of family fun kicks
off at 7 p.m., with the Harlem hoopsters promising to
put on an above-the-rim display that combines superior
skill with dazzling showmanship.
Though the MagicMasters team with former NBA and
college stars pose a formidable lineup, the Falls
Church All-Stars remain undaunted.
