On a night when Notre Dame honored former Mackin standout Austin Carr, Notre Dame Coach Mike Brey (DeMatha) guided his troops to an 82-70 defeat of Pitt. Friendly High’s Sam Young scored 20, canned three three-pointers, and grabbed eight rebounds for the Panthers.
Other D.C. products who have played for the Fighting Irish are Bobby Whitmore, Sid Catlett, Collis Jones, Adrian Dantley, Duck Williams, Tracy Jackson, Tom Sluby, Joe Howard, Cecil Rucker and Monty Williams. Several were team captains, and four of the aforementioned scored at least 40 points in a game while wearing the green and gold.
